Getting a ride to your appointment

Veterans Landing Rides connects veterans who need a lift to a medical appointment with volunteer drivers who are willing to give one. It is free. There is nothing to pay, ever.

What it is for

Rides to VA appointments, C&P examinations, Vet Center appointments and other approved medical appointments in Oklahoma and Kansas.

How it works, start to finish

You ask. Tell us the date, the time and where you need to be. Three short pages, nothing complicated.
We look for a driver. The system contacts volunteer drivers who cover your area and can take you where you are going.
A driver accepts. You get an email confirming who is driving you and when they will collect you.
They pick you up. Your driver has your pickup address and your phone number. Nothing else about you is shared with them.

What we ask you for, and what we do not

We ask for what a driver actually needs to collect you safely: where you are, where you are going, when, how many people are travelling, and whether you use a wheelchair, walker or cane. We ask for an emergency contact.

We do not ask for your Social Security number, your VA file number, your medical history, your medications, your disability rating or your diagnoses. None of that is any of a driver's business, and we do not collect it.

What your driver sees

Before a driver accepts, they see only the general area you are in, where you are going, the date and time, and whether you need a wheelchair-capable vehicle. They do not see your address, your phone number or your name.

Once a driver accepts and is assigned to you, they see your pickup address, your phone number, your emergency contact and any safety notes you asked us to pass on. No other driver sees any of it.

If something changes

You need to cancel. Cancel it on the site or call us. The driver is told straight away.
Your driver cannot make it. It happens. We are told immediately and we start looking for someone else. We will contact you.
Nobody is available. We will tell you honestly rather than leave you waiting. Please make other arrangements if you have not heard from us — we would rather be straight with you than have you miss an appointment.

Things you should know

Volunteer drivers are not medical personnel. They are giving you a lift, nothing more. If you have a medical emergency, call 911. Do not wait for a ride.

Drivers are volunteers. They are approved before they can take anyone, and their licence and insurance are checked. But they are ordinary people giving up their time, not a taxi service and not an ambulance.

If the website is difficult

You do not have to use it. Call Veterans Landing and a person will take the details and enter the request for you. That is a normal way to do this, not a last resort.
