Oklahoma & Kansas · Volunteer drivers · No cost, ever
You've gotan appointment.
We've got a ride.
Veterans Landing Rides gets veterans to their medical appointments — driven by volunteers, paid for by nobody. There is nothing to pay and nothing to sign up for but your name.
How it works
Four steps.
Start to finish.
You don't need to understand the system. You need to tell us where you have to be and when.
You ask
Tell us the date, the time and where you need to be. Three short pages, nothing complicated.
We look
The system contacts volunteer drivers who cover your area and can get you where you're going.
A driver accepts
You get an email confirming who is driving you and when they'll collect you.
They pick you up
Your driver has your pickup address and your phone number. Nothing else about you is shared.
Your information
We ask what a driver
needs. Nothing more.
We ask where you are, where you're going, when, how many people are travelling, whether you use a wheelchair, walker or cane, and who to call in an emergency. That's what it takes to collect you safely.
Before a driver accepts, they see only your general area, your destination, the date and time, and whether you need a wheelchair-capable vehicle. Not your address. Not your phone number. Not your name. Once they're assigned to you, they get your pickup address, your phone number, your emergency contact, and any safety note you asked us to pass on. No other driver sees any of it.
If nobody is available, we'll tell you straight instead of leaving you waiting.
What we never ask for
- Social Security number
- VA file number
- Medical history
- Medications
- Disability rating
- Diagnoses
None of it is a driver's business, and we don't collect it.
Volunteer drivers
One seat. One morning.
One veteran who makes it.
Every ride on this board happens because somebody with a car and a free morning said yes. You choose which requests you take and where you're willing to go — there's no quota and no schedule handed to you.
Drivers are approved before they carry anyone, and licence and insurance are checked. You're giving a lift, not providing medical care.
Before you sign up
You'll need a valid driver's licence, current insurance, and a vehicle you're comfortable carrying a passenger in.
You see ride requests for the areas you cover. You accept the ones that work for you and skip the ones that don't.
If something comes up and you can't make a ride you accepted, tell us — we start looking for someone else immediately.
On the ground
Real people.
Real rides. Real room.
Every photo here is somebody who showed up — a driver, a veteran, a family at the door on a Saturday morning.
Support the shuttle
Free for the veteran
isn't free to run.
Fuel, insurance, the phones, the coordinator's time, and the software that matches a request to a driver — all of it is carried by donations and by the businesses on this page. Every dollar puts a veteran in a seat and gets them to the doctor.
Scan the code with your phone camera, or come by the center and drop it in the box.
To our sponsors
These folks keep
the wheels turning.
Local businesses and organizations underwriting rides for Kay County veterans. Every level below puts fuel in the tank and a veteran in the seat. If your business wants a place on this board, get in touch.
Every sponsor receives
- Social media recognition
- A listing on this website
- Recognition posted on site at Veterans Landing
- A place on the Veterans Day float
Who runs this
Veterans Landing,
Ponca City.
Veterans Landing Rides is run out of Veterans Landing — Ponca City's peer-run drop-in center for Kay County veterans. It started because a veteran went looking for help, kept finding closed doors, and opened one of his own.
The center is a room with coffee on, people who've been where you've been, and help with benefits, claims, work, housing and food if you want it. Family friendly. Alcohol free and drug free. The shuttle grew out of the same idea: a veteran who can't get to the appointment doesn't get the care.
